Internet of Things (IoT) with MATLAB, SIMULINK and ThingSpeak --- by Dr Marta Patricia Tjoa

The Internet of Things (IoT) is where many of embedded devices (things) are connected to the internet and they can communicate with people and other things and often provide sensor data to cloud storage and cloud computing resources where the data is processed and analysed to gain important insights.

MATLAB and SIMULINK products support IoT systems by helping you develop and test edge node devices, access, and aggregate data, and analyse IoT sensor data. Mathworks hosted a free web service called ThingSpeak that lets you collect, analyse and act on sensor data, and develop Internet of Things applications. The ThingSpeak Support Toolbox lets you use MATLAB to read data from ThingSpeak and write data to ThingSpeak.

Hardware such as Raspberry Pi and Arduino can publish data from their sensor to the IoT using the ThingSpeak Write block. When the algorithm is running on target hardware, you can view the display of the data that your target hardware is publishing to ThingSpeak.
